FAQ
What the heck is a kugel anyway?
A kugel is a delicious Jewish dish originating from Eastern Europe. It's either sweet or savory casserole/pudding made from noodles or potatoes. My friends who are new to the product have described the Heavenly Apricot akin to a bread pudding OR a mac and jack/french toast mash up. Give it a try and let me know how you would describe it!
Do you make gluten free kugels?
We’re just not there yet with the noodles… and even still … we are not baking in a gluten free kitchen so we could not assure the risk from cross-contamination.
Are there any allergen warnings?
The Heavenly Apricot kugel has wheat, egg and dairy allergens and the Savory Salt 'n Peppa kugel has wheat and egg allergens. Please note: we are not cooking in a kitchen that would be safe for folks with any food allergies and cannot assure the risk from cross-contamination including nuts and seafood.
Are your kugels kosher?
Sorry, while the kugels are kosher style, with kosher ingredients and made in disposable tins, they are not made in a kosher kitchen.
What do you mean by handmade?
Our kugels are made individually, with loving care, in small batches, in a commercial kitchen.
How do I prepare my kugel?
Our kugels are handmade fresh, par-baked and fresh frozen. You should be sure to defrost the kugel and reheat uncovered at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Cut into squares and serve!
Can I eat my kugel cold?
Sure – we like to eat our pizza cold sometimes too… but keep in mind that our kugel is only par-baked, so be sure to finish it off by first defrosting, then cooking uncovered at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. In our humble opinion, we think the flavors are best appreciated when served warm, but go for it!
Can I freeze my kugel?
Absolutely! It will arrive par-baked and frozen. For best results, but be sure to defrost before cooking uncovered at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Best not to freeze after fully cooked... but it's so irresistible that there probably won't be any left to even have to worry about leftovers!
How many servings are in the kugels?
The medium (8" x 6" tin) will provide 6-8 portions.
The large (12" x 9.5" tin) is triple in size and provides 18-24 portions.
Do you make other flavors?
Eventually... We kicked off the business with the classic favorites:
- A sweet Heavenly Apricot noodle kugel (dairy heavy) – best for brunch, or served as a side dish for dinner with chicken, beef, salmon, pork and especially as a favorite dessert!
- A Savory Salt ‘n Peppa (no dairy) – best for dinner served as a side dish with chicken, brisket, burgers, or on its own as an afternoon snack.
Special seasonal offerings are under consideration – so keep checking back for updates!
